Biography
Born in Kyiv in 1991, Ameer Fakher Eldin is a writer and director of Syrian and Lebanese origin from the Golan Heights, based in Germany. His debut feature THE STRANGER premiered at the Venice International Film Festival 2021, where it received the Edipo Re Award. It was selected as Palestine’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards that same year. The film went on to win Best Film and Best Arab Film at the Cairo International Film Festival, as well as Best Cinematography at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, where Fakher Eldin also received a nomination for Best Director.
In 2025, his second film YUNAN premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in competition, where it was nominated for the Golden Bear and went on to win Best Director and Best Actor at the Red Sea International Film Festival, the Arab Critics Award for European Films /Best Film), awards for Best Actor and Best Actress at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, among others.
Ameer Fakher Eldin speaks English, Arabic, Hebrew, German and Russian and mainly writes in English.
